Settings

Open Settings by tapping the gear icon at the bottom of the popup. All settings sync across your Chrome browsers via Chrome Sync.

Language

Default: English

Choose from 11 languages. The interface, event titles, descriptions, and date formatting all update immediately.

Region

Default: Global

Select your region on the interactive world map. This filters historical events to show content relevant to your area. Global events always appear regardless of region.

Available regions: Global, Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia, North Africa, West Africa, Central Asia, Europe, Americas.

Theme

Default: System

Controls the color scheme of the popup.

  • System — Follows your operating system’s appearance
  • Light — Light background with dark text
  • Dark — Dark background with light text

Toggle the theme using the icon at the bottom of the popup.

Week Start Day

Default: Sunday

Controls which day appears in the first column of the calendar.

  • Saturday
  • Sunday
  • Monday

Prayer Time Settings

Location

Set your location by searching for a city or using Use My Location for browser geolocation. Location coordinates are stored locally and used to calculate prayer times. The only network request Taqwim makes is the city search via OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim API.

Madhab

Default: Shafi’i

Affects the Asr prayer time calculation:

  • Shafi’i — Shadow equals the object’s length (earlier Asr)
  • Hanafi — Shadow equals twice the object’s length (later Asr)

Time Format

Default: 12-hour

Choose between 12-hour (with AM/PM) or 24-hour display for prayer times.

Fasting Log

During Ramadan, your daily fasting log (Fasted, Missed, Excused) is stored locally and persists across sessions. Use Reset to Defaults to clear it along with all other settings.

Reset to Defaults

Clears all settings and returns to the onboarding flow. You’ll be asked to confirm before anything is deleted.

Privacy

  • All calculations (prayer times, Hijri conversions, moon phases) happen locally
  • No analytics, telemetry, or crash reporting
  • Settings sync through your Google Chrome Sync account only
  • The only network request is city search via OpenStreetMap
