Getting Started

Installation

Taqwim is a Chrome extension available on the Chrome Web Store:

  1. Visit the Taqwim listing on the Chrome Web Store
  2. Click Add to Chrome
  3. Confirm the installation when prompted

After installation, click the Taqwim icon in your browser toolbar to open the popup.

First-Time Setup

On your first launch, Taqwim walks you through a two-step onboarding:

  1. Language — Choose from 11 supported languages. Arabic and Urdu automatically enable right-to-left layout.
  2. Region — Select your region on the interactive map. This determines which historical events appear in the “Today” tab.

You can change both of these at any time in Settings.

The Three Tabs

Taqwim’s interface is organized into three tabs at the top of the popup:

Calendar

The full Hijri calendar for the current month. Each day shows a moon phase icon with illumination percentage. Navigate between months using the arrow buttons, or tap the center label to jump back to today.

Today

Historical events and Islamic observances for the current Hijri date. Events are filtered by your selected region and displayed as cards with category badges, descriptions, and source citations. You can share any event as an image, copy its text, or add it to Google Calendar.

Prayer

Daily prayer times for your location. Shows Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha with a countdown to the next prayer. You’ll need to set your location on first use — either search for a city or use your browser’s geolocation.

Setting Up Prayer Times

  1. Open the Prayer tab
  2. Tap Set Location
  3. Search for your city or click Use My Location to auto-detect via GPS
  4. Prayer times appear immediately using the Muslim World League calculation method by default

To change the calculation method or madhab, see Settings.
