Hijri Calendar
The calendar tab displays a full interactive Hijri calendar based on the Umm al-Qura standard.
Navigation
- Use the left/right arrows to move between months
- Click the month label to return to today
- Use arrow keys to move between days, Home/End to jump to the start or end of the month
Moon Phases
Each calendar day shows a moon phase icon representing one of eight lunar phases: new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, and waning crescent. Hover over a day to see the phase name and illumination percentage.
Gregorian Equivalents
The header displays both the Hijri and Gregorian dates so you can always see the correspondence between the two calendars.
Historical Events
The “Today” tab shows events and observances for the current Hijri month, filtered by your selected region.
Event Categories
Events are color-coded by category:

Regional Filtering
Taqwim includes 750+ curated events across 9 regions:
- Global (shown in all regions)
- Middle East, South Asia, Southeast Asia
- North Africa, West Africa, Central Asia
- Europe, Americas
Change your region in Settings or during onboarding.
Sharing Events
Each event card has action buttons:
- Share as Image — Generates a visual card you can save or share
- Copy Text — Copies the event title and description
- Add to Calendar — Creates a Google Calendar event with the Gregorian date automatically converted
Bookmarks
Tap the bookmark icon on any event to save it for quick access. Bookmarks persist across sessions and appear in a dedicated section.
Islamic Observances
Major Islamic observances appear alongside historical events in the “Today” tab. These include:
- Ramadan (30-day fasting period)
- Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha
- Day of Arafah, Laylat al-Qadr
- Mawlid an-Nabi and other commemorations
Multi-day observances (like Ramadan) span their full duration in the calendar.
Prayer Times
The Prayer tab shows accurate times for six daily prayers calculated using the adhan library.

Next Prayer Countdown
The next upcoming prayer is highlighted with a live countdown that updates every 60 seconds.
Calculation Methods
Taqwim supports 11 calculation methods from Islamic organizations worldwide. The default is Muslim World League. See Settings for the full list.
Ramadan Tools
During the month of Ramadan, Taqwim activates special features:
- Iftar Countdown — Live countdown to Maghrib (sunset) for breaking the fast
- Suhoor Time — Shows the pre-dawn meal deadline (Fajr time)
- Fasting Tracker — Log each day as Fasted, Missed, or Excused. Your log persists across sessions.
- Laylat al-Qadr Reminder — Highlights the last ten nights of Ramadan
A Ramadan banner also appears in the weeks leading up to Ramadan, showing how many days remain.
Multilingual Support
Taqwim is fully translated into 11 languages:
English, Arabic, Urdu, Turkish, Malay, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, and German.
Arabic and Urdu automatically switch the entire interface to right-to-left layout.
