Privacy Policy

Overview

Taqwim is a browser extension that provides a Hijri calendar, prayer times, Islamic historical events, moon phases, and Ramadan tools. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Taqwim collects, how it is used, and how it is stored.

Data we collect

Taqwim collects the following data, all of which is stored locally on your device:

• Location coordinates — Latitude and longitude, obtained either through your browser's geolocation API (with your explicit permission) or by searching for a city. Used solely to calculate accurate prayer times for your location.
• User preferences — Language, region, theme, week start day, prayer calculation method, madhab, time format, and display settings. Used to personalize your experience.
• Fasting log — Daily fasting status during Ramadan (fasted, missed, or excused). Used to help you track your Ramadan progress.
• Bookmarks — Historical events you choose to save. Used to provide quick access to events you find interesting.

How data is stored

All data is stored locally on your device using the browser's built-in storage API (chrome.storage.local). No data is sent to our servers because we do not operate any servers. Your data stays on your device and is never transmitted, sold, or shared with any third party.

External network requests

Taqwim makes one type of external network request:

• City search — When you search for a city to set your prayer times location, Taqwim sends the search query to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service to retrieve coordinates. Only the city name you type is sent. No personal data, identifiers, or cookies are included.

No analytics, tracking pixels, or telemetry of any kind are used.

Permissions explained

• storage — Save your preferences and data locally.
• alarms — Schedule background updates for the Hijri date badge and optional notification reminders.
• activeTab — Power the optional Hijri date overlay on web pages (only when enabled).
• notifications (optional) — Send reminders for Islamic observances and historical events. Only requested when you enable notifications.
• Host permission (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) — Allow city search for prayer time location.

Data sharing

We do not sell, transfer, or share any user data with third parties. We do not use any user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's functionality. We do not use any user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes.

Data deletion

You can delete all your data at any time by using the "Reset all settings" button in the extension's Settings page, or by uninstalling the extension. Both actions permanently remove all locally stored data.

Changes to this policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
