Introducing Taqwim — An Islamic Calendar for Your Browser

Meet Taqwim: a Chrome extension that brings together a Hijri calendar, prayer times, 750+ historical events, moon phases, and Ramadan tools — in 11 languages.

A Calendar That Feels Like Home

If you’ve ever needed to check the Hijri date, look up prayer times, or find out what happened on this day in Islamic history, you’ve probably bounced between three or four different apps and websites. None of them talk to each other, most are cluttered with ads, and few support your language.

Taqwim brings all of that together in one clean, private Chrome extension.

What Is Taqwim?

Taqwim is a Chrome extension that opens as a popup from your browser toolbar. It’s organized into three tabs: a full Hijri calendar, a “Today in Islamic History” feed, and daily prayer times — all calculated locally on your device.

Key Features

Hijri Calendar. A full interactive calendar based on the Umm al-Qura standard. Navigate between months, see moon phase icons on every day, and check the Gregorian equivalent at a glance. Keyboard navigation is fully supported.

750+ Historical Events. Curated events spanning battles, founding of institutions, scholarship, political milestones, and cultural achievements — organized across 9 regions from the Middle East to the Americas. Each event includes source citations and can be shared as an image, copied as text, or added to Google Calendar.

Prayer Times. Accurate times for Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha with a live countdown to the next prayer. Supports 11 calculation methods and both Shafi’i and Hanafi madhabs. Set your location by searching for a city or using GPS.

Moon Phases. Eight lunar phases displayed on every calendar day with illumination percentages. Follow the cycle that governs the Islamic calendar.

Ramadan Tools. Live Iftar countdown, Suhoor time display, a daily fasting tracker (fasted, missed, excused), and Laylat al-Qadr reminders during the last ten nights.

11 Languages. Fully translated into English, Arabic, Urdu, Turkish, Malay, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, and German — with full RTL support for Arabic and Urdu.

Privacy First

Taqwim makes zero network requests except for city search (via OpenStreetMap). All prayer time calculations, Hijri conversions, and moon phase computations happen locally. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Your settings sync through Chrome Sync and never touch our servers — because we don’t have any.
