Introducing DevEmbers
Why we're building focused developer tools, starting with Projectify for VS Code.
The Problem with Developer Tools
Most developer tools try to do too much. They start focused, then expand into sprawling platforms that slow down the very workflows they promised to improve. Every new feature adds configuration, documentation, and cognitive load.
We think there’s a better way.
What is DevEmbers?
DevEmbers builds focused developer tools — VS Code extensions, CLI tools, and system utilities — that each do one thing exceptionally well. We believe the best tools are like embers: small, focused sources of intense energy that quietly power everything around them.
Our philosophy is simple:
- Zero-configuration by default. Tools should work the moment you install them. No setup wizards. No JSON files to create. No manual steps before you can be productive.
- Focused by design. Each tool solves one problem completely, rather than solving ten problems halfway. Depth over breadth.
- Open source first. Every tool we build is open source, MIT licensed, and community-driven. Transparency builds trust.
Our First Product: Projectify
We’re starting with Projectify, a zero-configuration project manager for VS Code. If you work with more than a handful of projects, you know the friction: constantly navigating to File > Open Folder, trying to remember where that project lives, losing track of what you were working on.
Projectify gives you a dedicated sidebar panel where you can:
- Organize projects into nested groups (Work/Frontend, Personal/OSS)
- Tag projects with colors for instant visual filtering
- Star favorites so your most-used projects are always at the top
- Search across all your projects in real-time
- Launch terminals with custom shell configurations per project
- Connect to remote projects via SSH
All of this works out of the box. Install the extension, open the sidebar, and start organizing.
What’s Next
Projectify is just the beginning. We have CLI tools and system utilities in the pipeline — all built with the same philosophy of zero-configuration, focused design, and open source transparency.
If you’re a developer who values tools that respect your workflow rather than imposing one, we think you’ll like what we’re building.
